Wedding Photography | Janessa and Daryn

Today’s post is another one that is close to my heart.

Janessa contacted me shortly after her engagement to see if I was available to photograph her wedding…and I wasn’t! I already had a wedding booked on her original wedding date. But, Janessa just HAD to have me photograph her wedding, so she changed her date. How cool is that? I was stunned and so completely thankful. Since meeting for the first time, we got along great and have lots in common. We shared lots of back and forth emails about wedding related and non wedding related stuff and I discovered what a special person she is.

Over the summer when my life got a little crazy with shooting weddings and moving to Vancouver, Janessa became my assistant and helped keep my business from falling apart. She is one of those people I know I can trust and who supports me 100% and for that I am so thankful. Of course when her wedding day rolled around I was so excited and nervous…I wanted to make sure I gave her everything I could because she means so much to me.

Janessa and Daryn decided to do a ‘first look’, and see each other before the ceremony. This is such a fantastic idea, it allows for some really special moments together and some privacy to feel the range of emotions that overcome you when seeing each other for the first time. Doing this in private without an audience staring at you can really help reduce the jitters and anxiety of the day.

Sometimes I’m a little dumb and I didn’t really think about the fact that the location I put him was facing a building with windows. Until I saw his face I didn’t even think of the fact that he could see the reflection of Janessa coming down the stairs, but, I don’t care because look at his face! He is so happy!

Oh Ness you are so cute.

Finally, it was time to say their vows and get married! Woohoo!

There was a cocktail hour immediately following the ceremony where they served delicious dill popcorn. Yummy!I was able to sneak in to the reception area and take a shot from the back of the room before the guests were allowed in.

Let me tell you…the cucumber water was so refreshing!

The ice cream sandwiches were to DIE for. I could have eaten at least 20. Good thing other people gobbled them up before I had a chance to embarass myself.

At the reception, the ladies decided that they all wanted their turn to dance with the groom. Chad grabbed this shot…I love Daryn’s face, as if to say, ‘Help.Me.’He totally got mauled but it was all in good fun.

And they lived happily ever after!!

Vancouver Wedding Photographer | James and Marta

James and Marta were my very first ‘stranger’ wedding. This means that I didn’t know them before they booked me, and they weren’t referred by a friend or past client. They found me out of the blue and I’ll admit, I was super nervous when we first met. That all changed once I got to know them, they treated me like I was part of their inner circle, and gosh does that mean a lot to me. The time I have spent with these two has been nothing short of awesome, and I am happy to call them my close friends now. I believe that because we connected so well and were able to establish a friendship before the wedding, I was able to approach the day with an open heart and really capture these two the way they are. The laughs, smiles, tears, (and nerves!)…I’m not sure I would have been able to get that had I not already understood them. The trust that James and Marta had in me was so incredibly powerful, and I sincerely hope that I have done no less than provided a vivid recollection of their amazing wedding day. Congratulations to my dear friends, Mr. and Mrs. Y.

As an aside, I was talking to Marta one evening and she told me how much she wanted the ‘Sex and the City’ Manolo Blahnik shoes to wear as her something blue. James could not figure out why some stupid shoes cost soooo much money, and why couldn’t she just wear something else. Well, it turns out that Marta and I are very good at convincing him. What Marta wants, Marta gets. So, I give you, the SHOES!

This room is absolutely incredible. It is dripping with luxury and amazing details! Atmosphere Wedding Planning and Design did an amazing job decorating the room for the wedding. The decor matched perfectly!James and Marta also enjoy hunting. Naturally they brought GUNS! Ack! Not gonna lie, I was freaked out!So bad ass.
